Student Affairs Information Technology incorporates a student tech support entity by the name of HuskyTech. HuskyTech is run by a professional staff member, but is fully staffed by students with the desire to help their fellow students. Like SAIT, HuskyTech techs strive to fulfill the technical needs of the UConn campus. HuskyTech student workers support UConn students both on and off campus.

Our role is to provide students with information on how to connect to the University computer network, as well as providing help to keep the student’s computer clean and virus free. We act as a liaison between the student body and the central IT service (UITS) regarding network polices and violations. Parents and students please contact us regarding your technology needs at UConn.

If you need assistance after our main location in McMahon is closed, the library location is available. Please note that we cannot do advanced shop repair there and students cannot drop computers off at that location. All major issues will be referred to our McMahon shop.

Networking at UConn

UConn Wireless
In addition to wired network access, the University has now provided wireless internet in the study lounges of all Residential Halls. Shippee and Buckley are the only residential halls, where wireless internet is available throughout the entire building.

UConn-Secure is the recommend wireless network which provides a secure wireless connection with data encryption. Please click here, and follow the setup procedure to connect to UConn-Secure.

UConn-Public is an authenticated open network accessible to NetID and GuestID users. This network does not offer encryption of data over the air, thus being unsecure. To connect to UConn-Public, please refer to this website

Symantec Antivirus

To safeguard your computer from viruses and malware, the University offers students a lifetime subscription to Symantec Antivirus for free. You can download it at the UITS downloads page.
