Network Abuse Violation

Network Access Blocked For Illicit Network Activity

UITS will block any computer that they deem a threat to the UConn network. Some network settings on computers can have negative effects and are therefore prohibited.

Problem

Examples of network abuse are:

  • Incorrectly configured personal routers
  • Static IP settings
  • Bridged Internet Settings
  • MAC address spoofing
  • Scanning ports (the network)

Solution

If your computer has been blocked from the UConn network because of network abuse, please contact HuskyTech. A tech will go over some network troubleshooting steps to fix the issue. Most accounts of network abuse are caused by simple settings on a computer that may compromise other computers on the same network.

Prevention

To prevent network abuse allegations, do not change any networking settings. Your computer should not have any static network settings. Please check these settings before coming to campus as the UConn network is set up different than your home or work network.

Terms of Use

A student will receive a network access block for violating the University's terms of use. When a student registers a computer to the UConn network, he agrees to the following policies:
