Network Access Block

Limited Network Connection

StopUITS blocks computers from the UConn network if they believe they are a threat to the network’s security. For instance, if your computer is infected with a serious virus, it may be detected by UITS and blocked so the virus does not spread throughout the UConn network. Other violations which could lead to being blocked are: bandwidth violation, network abuse and copyright violations.

Problem

If a student’s computer is blocked from the UConn network, it will not be able to access the internet. Each time blocked users open their internet browser, they will be redirected to the stop page.

Note: If a computer has been blocked due to network abuse or a copyright violation, the user will receive an email from the university regarding the issue.

Solution

There are two ways to resolve this issue if it pertains to an infected computer:

  • Shop Visit - The user can drop their computer off at HuskyTech to have it cleaned.
  • Verification - The user can either bring it to a third party to clean it or fix it themselves.Either way, they must bring it to HuskyTech after it is fully cleaned so we can verify that it is no threat to the UConn network.

Prevention

  • Strong user password to log into your desktop
  • Download and install your operating system’s latest updates
  • Firewall Enabled (Both Windows and Mac now come Auto-enabled)
  • Updated Anti-virus program for Windows based computers

Terms of Use

A student will receive a network access block for violating the University's terms of use. When a student registers a computer to the UConn network, he agrees to the following policies:
